Tierra Atacama is a boutique hotel on the edge of San Pedro de Atacama. It was created by the Purcell family, long time owners and operators of the Ski Portillo, famous in Chile for its excellent skiing, food and warm hospitality. Like Portillo, Tierra Atacama provides guest experiences that combine outdoor adventure and sports with indoor comforts, hospitality and excellent service.
Tierra Atacama’s architecture, interior design and gardens were designed by some of Chile’s leading creative talent. Our objectives were to be as authentic as possible, using furniture and accessories handmade with local materials, while also creating a place that allows guests to relax, spoil themselves and enjoy the good-life in this magical part of the earth.
Our ambiance is casual and friendly; we want our guests to be comfortable in our common areas just as if they were in their own homes. Enjoy one of the welcoming private corners of the hotel such as a seat by one of the terrace fire pits, lounge next to the pool or relax on one of the shady outdoor decks. When night falls, take in the brilliant stars, bask in the peace and wonder that is the Atacama Desert. The hotel faces the majestic Licancabur Volcano and there are panoramic views throughout.

EXPERIENCE
In centuries past, the inhabitants of San Pedro de Atacama lived in small communities made up of extended families, these were known as "Ayllus". Communities shared the precious resources of the oasis, built important canals to distribute the water and also organized a way of working which used the available manpower to benefit the community as a whole. The land of Tierra Atacama is part of the Ayllú de Yaye.
Tierra Atacama Hotel and Spa is built on the site of the old cattle corral, where the drovers who brought cattle from Argentina to the Port of Antofagasta stopped to feed and rest their animals after the tough crossing of the Andes. They restocked on forage and water before continuing their journey. The architects of Tierra Atacama decided to incorporate the ancient adobe walls into the entrance of the hotel, preserving them as a monument to the history of the area.
FOOD&WINE
Tierra´s chef creates wonderful meals using healthy, fresh ingredients of the area, such as quinoa, Andean potatoes and fresh herbs. We source the best beef and Chilean lamb, the freshest fish and seafood, the best of the seasonal fruits and vegetables, including from our own garden. Chile is a great country for food with its long Pacific Ocean coast and its many excellent climatic zones for agriculture.
Our menus feature traditional Chilean and Andean dishes, which tend to be light and healthy. We also offer vegetarian dishes, as well as international cuisine. There will always be options for each of the three courses so you can pick the dish that best fits your taste.
A typical starter would be a traditional Chilean crab filled pastry or a grilled pear salad with camembert and caramelized walnuts. This would be followed by a choice of tender ostrich filet with cabernet sauce and a side of thyme and sage fettuccini or grilled salmon with tomato gnocchi and a light pesto sauce. Vegetarians could opt for a delicious lasagne or a sesame rice noodle and vegetable dish. For dessert, a traditional southern crumb kutchen with cabernet sauvignon ice cream or a light fruit salad.
UMA SPA
Uma is the Aymara word for water. Water is a source of life, of revitalization. At Tierra we want to ensure that you experience the revitalization and luxurious rejuvenation you seek. Our Uma Spa boasts an outdoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi and an indoor heated pool. The indoor pool has water jets, beds of bubbles and other playful features.
Our three treatment rooms are cocoons with candles, light music and aromatherapy oils. Discover our facials, massages, body wraps and scrubs, body treatments and alternative therapies using natural desert elements such as volcanic mud, lithium rich salt and desert herbs. The steam room or Turkish bath is lovely after a day in the dry air of the desert.
